Funeral services for Deacon Eddie H. Long, 75, were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, at New Pentecostal Church in Greensboro. Pastor/Suffragan Bishop Lovetta Long officiated, with Bishop Dennis McCarter as pulpit conductor.
Deacon Long was born on September 10, 1950, in Hale County to the late Benjamin and Aslee Hoskins Long. He passed away on March 21, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by family and friends.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Name of Jesus in 1971. He joined Christ Temple Holiness Church in Sawyerville before later moving his membership to New Pentecostal Church in Greensboro, where he remained faithful under the leadership of the late Elder Eugene Fields. Until his passing, he continued to serve faithfully under the leadership of Suffragan Bishop Lovetta Long.
Deacon Long was a 1969 graduate of the Hale County Public School System in Greensboro. He retired from Hale County Hospital after 47 years of dedicated service as the Supervisor of Environmental Services. He was also a phenomenal photographer for many years, capturing moments that will be cherished for generations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Aslee Hoskins Long; his beloved wife, Naomi Long; his sister, Mary H. Hill; and his brother, Tommy Long.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories one daughter, Ashley Long of Moundville; four sons, Eldrin Long of Greensboro, Benjamin (LaMesha) Long and Jonathan (Erica) Long, both of Tuscaloosa, and Jeremy Long of New York, New York; one goddaughter, Antoinette Avery of Douglasville, Georgia; a very close friend, Eunice Crawford of Greensboro.
He is also survived by four sisters, Leanna Wilson of Pontiac, Michigan, Hattie Tatum of Long Beach, California, Special Sister—Johnnie L. Ash of Greensboro, and Annie Wilson of Detroit, Michigan; one brother, Danny Ray (Shirley) of Long Beach, California; two special friends, Jeffrey Gee and Susie Avery-Young.
He also leaves a mother-in-law, Jessie Taylor; two brothers-in-law, Boris Washington and Cedric (Sonya) Dixon; three sisters-in-law, Mable Dixon, Rema (Nathaniel) Everett, and Patricia (Ricky) Jones; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
