A chat with Mona Stephens, fundraising committee, A Heart for the Arts Mayor’s Ball

Diligent in all her work and responsibilities, Mona Stephens of Bessemer is a charming, lovely lady whose excellent organizational skills and assiduous nature always contribute to a successful event or enterprise.

Originally from New Orleans, Mona has been a resident of Bessemer for 42 years. She taught at McAdory, Pittman and Alliance schools in the Jefferson County school system for 18 years. Most recently, she retired from the City of Bessemer with 23 years of service.

A pleasant, charming personality with a sweet smile, Mona is a member of the fundraising committee for A Heart for the Arts Mayor’s Ball. The elegant event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, in support of the arts and arts education in Hoover.

What is A Heart for the Arts Mayor’s Ball?

Mona: This new, exciting event planned for the fall in Hoover will offer the community a wonderful occasion to spend an evening in celebration of the arts and supporting the Hoover Arts Foundation and its important work.

Who does the fundraiser benefit?

Mona: The inaugural affair benefits the Hoover Arts Foundation. The 501(c)(3) organization supports the arts and arts education across Hoover.

What are your responsibilities?

Mona: As a member of the fundraising committee, I am focused on raising money for our nonprofit organization, the Hoover Arts Foundation. I am selling sponsorship tables that seat 10 and also individual tickets. I am excited to tell the community about the Hoover Arts Foundation and sell them a ticket to the Mayor’s Ball.

Who is chairman of this black-tie event?

Mona: Stephanie Derzis, wife of Hoover Mayor Nick Derzis.

Where will the event be held?

Mona: The Mayor’s Ball will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham-The Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover.

Tell me about the sponsorships.

Mona: As an arts organization, we have named our sponsorship tables in honor of famous artists. We have the Michelangelo table for $35,000, the Picasso table for $15,000, the Van Gogh table for $25,000 and the Banksy table for $10,000. We are also selling single tickets for $250.

Tell me about the evening’s entertainment.

Mona: There will be a band, along with additional entertainment throughout the evening.
