April is Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month.
The Hoover Police Department is committed to serving and supporting the citizens of Hoover, as well as visitors. In partnership with The Arc of Shelby County, the department has launched the Blue Envelope Program during Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month.
Chief Clay Morris, Hoover Police Department Chief, is leading this initiative. The voluntary Blue Envelope Program is intended to improve communication between officers and drivers who have autism, developmental disabilities, dementia, anxiety, or other conditions.
Participants are given a blue envelope to hold important documents and communication guidance. They are also provided with a blue seat belt sleeve cover to help indicate a need for accommodation.
The Blue Envelope kits are available at no cost at Hoover City Hall.
