Teenager killed in Bessemer house collapse over the weekend

A 17-year-old has died after a house collapse on Saturday afternoon, April 18, in Bessemer.

Fire department crews were called to a house in the 300 block of Black Avenue around 3 p.m.

The teen was pulled from the debris and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Bessemer Fire Chief Kendrick Hughley. The Jefferson County Coroner has identified the deceased as Michal Jermain Ross.

Ross was working with an adult to renovate the house, which had been condemned after a fire in January, at the time of its collapse.

Bessemer police are currently investigating the matter.
