Coach Jeremy Vines of LaFayette, Ala., has played football all of his life, starting as a four-year-old, then John P. Powell Middle School to LaFayette High School.
He has come full circle.

Today, Coach Vines is the new head football coach at Hueytown High School. He was hired several months ago.
“I am excited and thankful to Hueytown High School Principal Howard and the Jefferson County Board of Education for giving me the opportunity to serve at Hueytown High,” said Coach Vines.
The Golden Gophers are a young team this year but have a bright future. They are excited to see what the season holds for them.
Coach Vines’ goal for the first season is to continue the winning tradition at Hueytown High while developing character and teaching discipline, mutual respect, skill development, and perseverance.
Coach Vines, a 2020 graduate of Alabama State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, is committed to building a program that the administration, teachers, students, Hueytown community, and the Central Office will be proud of.
The team will play in an away jamboree game on August 13 against Jasper.
They open the season at home on August 21 against the Mountain Brook Spartans.
Coach Vines added, “The team must play with discipline, attention and a great effort while being dirty, physical and fast and aggressive.” Hopefully, the Golden Gophers will again make the playoffs and compete for a state championship.
