Bessemer Police Officer Stewart promoted to Detective

Bessemer Police Officer David Stewart was recently promoted to the rank of detective.

Bessemer Police Chief Gary Carmichael made it official on May 2 following a promotion ceremony held at the Bessemer Civic Center.

Originally from Birmingham, Stewart started with the department in 2010 and returned in 2016.

He has served as a patrol officer and a school resource officer in the Bessemer School System for over two years.

Stewart said, “I appreciate Chief Carmichael for giving me this opportunity to serve the citizens of Bessemer as a detective. I am committed to serving the people of Bessemer to the best of my ability.”

His duties include working on felony cases, preparing search warrants for all types of felony crimes, obtaining felony arrest warrants, and working with the District Attorney’s office.

Stewart has been married for 17 years to Lydia, and they have one son.
