With a cheerful heart and a beautiful soul, Mona Stephens of Bessemer has always enjoyed life, bringing joy and love to those around her. Her charming personality welcomed a crowd of co-workers, friends, and family to a surprise retirement party held in her honor on Friday, April 24.
The retirement party was held in the Multi-Purpose Room at Bessemer City Hall. Mona is retiring from the City of Bessemer after 23 years of dedicated service. The City of Bessemer Finance Department planned and hosted the memorable event.
Mona, wife of Jefferson County Commissioner Jimmie Stephens, joined the city in 2003 working at Bessemer Utilities. A year later, she transferred to the City Clerk’s office at Bessemer City Hall, and from 2005 until retirement, she has served in the Finance Department.
Looking most attractive in a blue and yellow print dress, Mona shared that she loves going to the beach, where she plans on spending a lot of time, along with travelling and gardening.
For lunch, the many guests enjoyed Mona’s favorite: a delicious Italian meal. Seen in the crowd celebrating her career were:
-
Family: Commissioner Jimmie Stephens, her daughter Melissa Bogardus, and Matt and Brittany Stephens.
-
City Leadership: Mayor Kenneth and Yvonne Gulley, and Fire Chief Kendric Hughley.
-
Colleagues and Friends: Ericka Smith, April Fowler, Mary Ann Heron, Rickeal Gray, Janiece Gaines, Marla Brown, Kim Broughton, Kermelia Hall, Ashley Seligson, Michael Davis, Angela Coleman, Charlie Waldrep, Elizabeth and Harry Hill, Bobby Horn, Carlton Jackson, Alicia Moss, Kris Davis, Dee Hurst, Kenneth Gulley, Jr., Chris Warren, Tiffany Taylor, Katherine Ware, Vonda Jones, and Jackie Woods.
