Laura Kyser, a Hale County native and a sophomore studying pre-nursing at Auburn University, received the John C. Jay Jr. Memorial Scholarship at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s scholarship reception Sept. 21 at Lazenby Farms in Auburn.
Seventy-nine students were honored at the annual program. Through a partnership between the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation and county Farmers Federations, almost $140,000 in scholarships went to Auburn undergraduates pursuing careers in agriculture and forestry, the federation said.
Federation President Jimmy Parnell told the students that hard work would set them apart quicker than anything else.
“Learn to reason, take in facts and put out effort,” he said.
