Incumbent Bessemer City Councilman Jarvis Collier won re-election in District 1 in the Aug. 25 municipal election, defeating Michael Knight 252 votes to 250.
Collier is president of the Bessemer City Council. First elected in 2018, he represents District 1, which takes in old Jonesborough, Smith Highlands, the residential section behind Westlake, parts of Jonesboro and most of downtown Bessemer.
“I want to thank my entire family and all my supporters throughout the district for believing in me and allowing me to serve,” Collier said. “My heart is truly full of gratitude, and I thank the residents of District 1 for trusting me with your vote and allowing me the opportunity to continue serving as your City Council representative. I don’t take this responsibility lightly.”
