Black Belt Paddle Festival seeks area artists

Sacred Space, Inc. is inviting artists from Hale County and across the Black Belt to take part in the Black Belt Paddle Festival, set for Saturday, Sept. 26, at Jennings Ferry Campground on the Black Warrior River.

Organizers are looking for artists working in painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, mixed media, folk art and nature-based art to display their work, share their creative practices and help highlight the artistic heritage of the region.

The festival is a celebration of the region’s creativity, culture, ecology and community pride, Sacred Space director Stephannie D. Nixon said in the invitation, and is meant to give youth and families a chance to experience the power of local art while celebrating the Black Warrior River as a source of history, ecology and artistic inspiration.
