This is the 15th year the Bessemer Fire Department has taken part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The theme is the Fill the Boot campaign.
“We are again pleased to participate in the fundraiser and grateful for the continued support of the community,” Fire Chief Kendric Hughley said.
Each weekend in October, firefighters will be at the Tannehill Promenade selling Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirts and taking donations.
They will also provide breast cancer awareness and prevention information.
Money collected will benefit Brenda’s Brown Bosom Buddies and Pink Topps, nonprofits that provide support and resources to the Bessemer community.
October was chosen as the month to increase awareness of breast cancer and raise money.
The American Cancer Society and Imperial Chemical Industries established National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 1985.
