Voter turnout was low for the Bessemer municipal election held Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The voting population in Bessemer is fraught with apathy.
In District 7, incumbent City Councilman Cleo King received 266 votes, local minister Silas Baldwin 191 votes and Howard Acoff Jr. 79 votes.
A runoff between King and Baldwin will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
King, a 2000 graduate of Jess Lanier High School, is seeking a fourth term.
Baldwin, a 2009 graduate of Jess Lanier High School and a 2024 graduate of Miles Law School, has been a minister since 2011.
