Homestead Day set for Sept. 12 in Newbern

Auburn University Rural Studio and the Aquatic Resources Team of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System will host the 2026 Homestead Day on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rural Studio, 8448 Alabama Highway 61 in Newbern.

The free event offers a day of demonstrations, conversations and activities focused on food, farming, water, land and home, with practical skills and ideas for small landowners.

Experts will be on hand for gardening and soil, fishing and aquaculture, food preservation, cottage food law, pond and water management, and sustainable agriculture, and children’s activities include Geo Explorer Auburn and Soil Stories.

Programs will be presented by the Alabama Heirs’ Property Alliance, the Alabama Black Belt Prairie Initiative, the Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network and Alabama Audubon. Lunch will be available for purchase from food trucks on site.

The event is sponsored by the Alabama Fish Farming Center, the Auburn University College of Architecture, Design and Construction, and AU Rural Studio.
