Margie Varner has been the Bessemer School Board, Dist. 5 representative since 2022.
She believes that education is the heartbeat of every successful community.
Varner is seeking re-election because the children deserve strong schools, responsible leadership, transparent government and board members who are willing to ask the tough questions necessary to protect students, employees and taxpayers.
The election will be held on Tuesday, August 25. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
Her campaign slogan is “Pursuing Excellence.”
Excellence and accountability are foremost in her priorities.
Varner said, “I want to thank the voters in District 5 for the trust they have placed in me. I ask for your continued support such that we can strongly advocate for accountability and the pursuit of excellence.”
An accountant, Varner is a lifelong resident of Bessemer, and her family has been in the Jonesboro Heights community for over 125 years.
She believes that local, elected officials have both the responsibility and the obligation to exercise independent judgement and preserve meaningful local governance whenever possible.
Varner firmly believes that we must strongly advocate for the release of the school system from intervention.
