Vincent Lee “Vince” Russell, 66, of Kansas City, Mo., died suddenly January 17.
He was born July 8, 1959, to Isaac and Ruth Russell at Craig Air Force Base near Selma.
Russell lived most of his life in Kansas City, where he graduated from Southeast Senior High School in 1977. He served three years in the U.S. Army as a military policeman in Germany, then returned to Kansas City, working in security while completing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems.
He worked for the Raytown School District’s technology division as an assistant director and continuing education instructor, taking early retirement in 2015 due to health issues.
In retirement, he was an avid car restorer, model train enthusiast and traveler. He maintained several large aquariums for more than 25 years and was known as the “Mayor” of Deer Wood Estates.
He had no children of his own but was a favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother.
He is survived by his siblings, Glenn (Carmen) Russell of Fairfax, Va., Rebekah Russell of Hampton, Va., and Glenn (Charlotte) Rice of Grandview, Mo., as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Friday, January 29, in Kansas City. Graveside services were held Friday, July 10, at the Washington Family Cemetery on County Road 16 in Greensboro, where he wished to be laid to rest among family beside his mother, Ruth Washington Russell, and brother, Ronald Russell Sr.
