For four years, the Hueytown Arts Council has awarded scholarships to outstanding students in the Hueytown area who will pursue an arts program in college.
The Scholarship Reception was held recently at the Hueytown Recreation Center.
Michelle McClinton is president of the Hueytown Arts Council.
The Council is also committed to supporting arts education in the Hueytown schools.
This investment in the community encourages greater participation on the part of the public in the arts programs.
This year’s recipients are:
- Jordan Jackson of Hueytown High School
- Hayleigh Hadder of Oak Grove High School
- Kendrick Jones from Hueytown High School
- Gracie Davis of Hueytown High School
Each recipient announced their college plans.
A total of $7,000 in scholarships was awarded.
In addition to the students being honored, two local teachers were also recognized for their efforts in supporting creative arts in the classroom.
Honored were Rebekah Poe at Hueytown Intermediate School and Mia Molina-Haynie at Bessemer Academy.
The members of the Scholarship committee are Rachael McClinton, Susan Blake and Gina Aldrich.
