“This truly feels like a dream come true. I’ve hoped for this moment for such a long time, and I’m grateful to finally experience it,” said Mrs. Sandra King Nixon.
On April 24, Mrs. Nixon was crowned Jefferson County’s Miss Super Senior 2026, a title awarded in a yearly Birmingham-area pageant that celebrates women over 70 who have reached what organizers call the “age of elegance.”

The event includes runway fashion presentations, judges’ interviews, and a question-and-answer session. Along with the Miss Super Senior title, the pageant also recognizes participants in their 60s and early 70s with Ms. Senior Jefferson County titles.
Speaking about her experience and broader reflections on women’s representation, Mrs. Nixon said:
“I feel women of today are being represented with more visibility, strength and leadership than ever before, yet there’s still room for growth. Winning the Miss Super Senior contest has shown me, as I hope it also inspires others, to know that it is never too late and you’re never too old to follow your dreams and step boldly into new possibilities. During the pageant it was also a welcoming experience to connect with the other contestants while embracing every moment of fun along the way.”
She also offered advice to younger women and teenagers:
“To my younger women and teenagers, I’d like to tell them to choose respect as your standard. Never allow anyone to hinder you from pursuing your greatest goals, and always remember never to come down from the top shelf simply because others can’t rise to meet you.”
Mrs. Nixon encouraged community involvement and volunteering, emphasizing the impact of small acts of kindness. She also expressed gratitude to supporters, including Shanette Hinkle, Curtoyia Duncan, and Bessemer’s Silver Boomers Group.
Organizers encourage the public to follow updates through the Jefferson County Commission or the Ms. Senior Alabama, Inc. Facebook page.
The event highlighted the accomplishments of senior women across Jefferson County and celebrated Mrs. Sandra King Nixon for her achievement and continued community inspiration.
