Perry County proudly joined in the celebration of Extension Week, observed April 12–17, with a lively and engaging Open House held on Wednesday, April 15. The event brought together community members, Extension professionals, and special guests for an afternoon filled with learning, connection, and fun.
The Open House showcased the wide range of programs and services offered through Extension, with a strong emphasis on health, education, and community development. Attendees had the opportunity to meet and interact with a dedicated team of Extension staff, including Jovita Lewis, Assistant Director of Field Operations (ADFO); Melanie Hogue, Administrative Assistant for the Perry County Office; Court Green-Johnson, Animal Science & Forages; Kaleigha Jimerson, EFNEP Agent Educator; Isabella Watters, 4-H Foundation Agent; and Corey Courtwright, Aquatic Resources.
Throughout the event, guests enjoyed informative presentations and interactive discussions. Isabella Watters delivered an engaging session on stress awareness and management, offering practical tips for maintaining mental wellness. Court Green-Johnson shared updates on her programs and highlighted an exciting upcoming event, sparking interest among attendees eager to get involved.
Visitors also learned about the “Just Move Alabama” challenge taking place throughout the month of April, presented by Kaleigha Jimerson, who encouraged individuals and families to stay active and prioritize their health in a fun and supportive way.
Adding to the excitement, several lucky attendees walked away with door prizes. Congratulations to Sheriff Roy Fikes, Irma Harris, Natasha Chandler, and Natasha Rawls for being the event’s prize winners.
The Open House was made even more special by the presence of dedicated volunteers and supporters, including former County Extension Director Katrina Easley and Mrs. Cornelia May, who graciously stopped by to lend their time and assistance.
Guests enjoyed light refreshments while networking and learning more about how Extension continues to serve as a valuable resource in Perry County. The event was a true celebration of community spirit, education, and the positive impact of Extension programs.
With such a successful turnout and enthusiastic participation, Perry County Extension looks forward to continuing its mission of empowering individuals and strengthening communities throughout the year.
