Officer Derrick Robinson went from driving tractor-trailers for 21 years to today driving a police car for nearly four years.
The Bessemer Police Department hired Robinson in June of 2022 at 52 years of age.
Four years later, he has been promoted to the position of environmental officer for the city of Bessemer.
Officer Robinson takes great pride in this position and is committed to serving the city of Bessemer.
“In this capacity, I serve as the primary point of response for environmental and quality of life concerns across the city,” said Officer Robinson.
A native of New Castle, Alabama, he intends to continue building upon the established foundation by improving response times, strengthening ordinance enforcement and enhancing community trust and satisfaction.
A graduate of the Police Academy in Selma, Officer Robinson’s duties will include investigating and addressing complaints from the Mayor’s Office and Bessemer City Council, enforcing municipal ordinances relating to illegal dumping and abandoned properties, writing citations, ensuring compliance with city codes and public safety standards and responding to animal related concerns.
Officer Robinson has been married for 22 years to Comeshea Robinson, and they have two children.
He enjoys motorcycle riding, family time, hunting and fishing.
