Garden Club selects Pattie Dismukes for April ‘Yard of the Month’ award

Yard of the Month

The Greensboro Garden Club is pleased to recognize Pattie Dismukes as its April Yard of the Month honoree, celebrating a property that reflects years of care, character, and quiet enjoyment.

Dismukes and her late husband, Coats Dismukes, moved to Greensboro from Louisiana around 2002, bringing with them a love of gardening that quickly took root. In those early years, the couple enjoyed working together in a backyard vegetable garden, growing fresh produce and spending time outdoors.

Today, Pattie Dismukes finds her greatest joy in the peaceful beauty of her front yard. From her porch rocking chair, she spends many afternoons watching squirrels dart through the trees, birds gather in the yard, and even the neighborhood cat stopping by for a visit. Surrounded by blooming flowers and the shade of mature trees, her yard offers a calm and welcoming setting.

A standout feature of the property is the handcrafted wooden arbor, now gracefully wrapped in a muscadine vine. Tucked just beyond the house, the arbor adds both structure and charm to the landscape and remains her favorite part of the yard.

Another unique feature is the home’s brick walkway, which has an interesting story behind it. When the previous owner, Mr. Turner, had the walkway built, he asked that it be designed so water wouldn’t stand on it. As a result, it was constructed with a slight arch, allowing water to run off—something that still works well today while adding a subtle bit of character to the home’s entrance.

The Greensboro Garden Club’s Yard of the Month program is designed to recognize homeowners who contribute to the beauty of the community through well-maintained and thoughtfully enjoyed outdoor spaces. The program runs annually from April through December, with a new yard recognized each month.

Residents who would like to nominate a yard are encouraged to text their suggestions to the Garden Club at (334) 663-7433.
