At a recent meeting of the West Jefferson County Historical Society held at the historic Owen House, the organization set the date Sunday, December 6, for the Christmas Heritage Tour of Pioneer Homes. The Christmas tour will quickly get you in the Christmas Spirit.
The Owen House, owned and operated by the Historical Society, is located on Eastern Valley Road. The rear wing of the house was built in 1833 with the main house completed in 1838.
Along with the Owen House, the historic McAdory House, ca. 1839, and the Sadler House, ca. 1827, are also on Eastern Valley Road and will be open to the public from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the tour.
Leigh Anne Courington will serve as chairman of the 51st annual Christmas Tour which benefits the ongoing maintenance of the three historic houses.
Courington said, “If you think you know the Christmas Tour of Pioneer Homes, come see what is new this year. We are honoring the history of our homes while creating a fresh experience that we believe will make this year’s tour especially memorable.”
The historic plantation houses will be beautifully decorated in fresh greenery, fruit, burning candles and a Christmas tree for this most wonderful season.
There will be entertainment at the houses and period-dressed docents to welcome you.
