Mary Camille Farris of Moundville dies at age 77

Mary Camille Farris, 77, of Moundville died the morning of September 23 after an extended illness. She was born April 16, 1949, in Birmingham and was raised in Alabaster, where she attended Thompson High School and was a member of the class of 1967.

She spent most of her life as a homemaker and as a caretaker to her mother, Mazie. She lived in Killen from 1993 until her health declined in 2023, and while there she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Alabama. She also met her husband, P.D., there, and they married in 1995. She was a member of Crestline Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Presley Cox; her mother, Mazie Lorene Clay Cox; and her maternal grandparents, Luther and Mary Emaline Howell Clay.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip Don Farris of St. Joe, Tenn.; her daughters, Stephani Mitchell (Casey) of Moundville and Christina Hudson, Lisa Bates and Micah Holden (Heath), all of North Alabama; her brother, Robert Clay Cox; her grandchildren, Mary Mazie Mitchell, Maci James Mitchell and Kylee Holden; and her second cousin, Donny Clark (Linda) of Hamilton, and their children.

The family will hold a private service, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Hamilton. Pallbearers will be Casey Mitchell, Jamie Mitchell, Tony Mitchell, Heath Vickery and Ben Myhan.

Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family thanks the staff of Moundville Health and Rehab for their care of her during her final months and the staff of Hospice of West Alabama for their care and comfort.
