A historical marker honoring the Bluff Park Art Show will be dedicated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Bluff Park Community Park, 517 Cloudland Drive, in Hoover.
The park hosts the annual show on the first Saturday in October and is being commemorated as the historical home of the Bluff Park tradition. Representatives of the Hoover Historical Society, the Bluff Park Art Association and Hoover city government will attend.
The Bluff Park Art Association, a nonprofit run by a volunteer board, presents the show each year. It began as a way to raise money to expand the Bluff Park Elementary library and has grown into a nationally recognized show drawing 3,000 to 4,000 visitors and artists from across the country.
The association also rotates a collection of 130 works among local schools, libraries, universities and other public locations, funds public sculpture, gives to local schools and libraries, awards college scholarships and sponsors art education programs and awards throughout the year.
