Along with cities across the United States, Gov. Kay Ivey has proclaimed Dolly Day in Alabama.
Sept. 25 was designated Dolly Day as an occasion to celebrate Dolly Parton’s lasting contributions to children and families.
“Dolly Day is a wonderful opportunity for Alabamians to celebrate the joy Dolly Parton brought to so many and the special legacy she created for our youngest learners,” Ivey said.
Parton’s Imagination Library was established in 1995 in her home county of Sevier County, Tenn. Today it has become an international movement reaching millions of children.
More than 121,000 Alabama children are now enrolled in the reading program, and more than 3 million books have been mailed to children across the state.
