A Demopolis man is charged with first-degree robbery after a man was seriously injured in what police say was the theft of a cell phone at knifepoint early Sept. 6 in a case investigated by the Uniontown Police Department.
Devant’e Cortrell Banks, 32, of Demopolis, was arrested Sept. 10, according to Perry County District Court records filed the same day. The record lists him as jailed and shows no bond set.
The complaint, sworn Sept. 10, alleges that about 1 a.m. Sept. 6, in the course of stealing a cell phone, Banks used force or threatened the imminent use of force with a knife to compel the victim to give up the property or to escape with it, and that he caused the victim serious physical injury.
First-degree robbery is a Class A felony, punishable by 10 years to life in prison.
All persons arrested or charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
