Greensboro City Council had to establish a pay rate for two recently hired city employees at their September 22, 2026, meeting.
An I.T clerk and a driver for the street department were hired by the city without starting pay having been set. City Council Clerk Lorrie Cook said the starting pay for street department workers is $12 an hour. New hires with CDLs are paid $15 an hour. The new street department driver has a CDL.
There is no set pay rate for I.T workers.
Councilmember Curtis made a motion to pay the I.T clerk $13 an hour and the street department driver $20 an hour. Councilmember Lewis seconded the motion and all Councilmembers were in favor.
Mayor Howard abstained from the vote.
Curtis made a motion to purchase a Lane Shark LS4 Front-Mount Brush Cutter for the city. The Lane Shark 4 is a vertical brush cutter with a 44-inch cutting diameter that attaches to front-end loaders. The model in question is sold by Safford Hardware for $5,100.
Councilmember Bragg seconded the motion to purchase the brush cutter and it was passed unanimously.
Toyvain Brand from the Men of Valor organization asked the city to close a section of Main Street on Halloween from 5-9PM for the group’s annual Haunted House and Trunk or Treat event.
Councilmember Kyser made a motion to close the section of Main Street during the requested hours. Lewis seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously.
