The Greensboro Opera House will host a Patriotic Music Extravaganza on Sunday, June 14, at 3 p.m. as part of Greensboro Celebrates America 250, a series of local events marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Eight professional instrumentalists will perform patriotic music spanning the decades, featuring piano, flute, piccolo, fiddle, trumpet, trombone, and drums. A community choir will join for select numbers. The program will include anthems, war ballads, hymns, military marches, folk songs, and show tunes. Marsha Harrow is serving as music director.
The Rev. John Alexander will narrate the concert and provide historical context, highlighting the role of music in the American story. The program will honor veterans of all wars, including Greensboro’s own R.H. Hobson of Magnolia Grove, a hero of the Spanish-American War. Veterans in attendance will be recognized.
The event is co-sponsored by the Choctaw Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Greensboro Opera House, the Greensboro Music Study Club, Friends of the Hale County Library, Engle Art Gallery, the Greensboro Garden Club, and the Greensboro Alabama Preservation and Tourism Alliance.
Funding has been provided in part by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and America250Alabama.
Admission is free. For more information about upcoming events and lectures in the series, visit visitgreensboroal.com or contact Adelaide Cherry at 334-324-9275.
