Judge reminds voters of polling place changes ahead of May primary

Perry County Probate Judge Carlton Hogue is reminding voters of polling place changes that will take effect for the May 19 primary election.

The most significant change affects voters in Commission Districts 1, 2, 3 and 4 whose registered polling place was the Old National Guard Armory. Those voters will now cast their ballots at the new National Guard Armory on Magnolia Drive, also known as Industrial Drive.

Additionally, District 3 voters in the Radfordville precinct will now vote at the Suttle Volunteer Fire Department building on Highway 14 East.

Judge Hogue said he posted paper notices at each affected precinct polling location on March 18 to inform voters of the changes.

The statewide primary election is Tuesday, May 19. The deadline to register to vote for the primary is Monday, May 4. Voters may register or update their registration online at the Secretary of State’s website if they have a valid Alabama driver’s license or non-driver ID card. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Alabama does not require voters to register with a political party. Voters choose which party’s ballot they wish to vote at the polls. If a primary runoff is required in any race, it will be held on Tuesday, June 16. Voters who cast a ballot in one party’s primary may only vote in that same party’s runoff.

Voters who are unsure of their polling place or registration status can check online at the Secretary of State’s website at sos.alabama.gov or contact the Perry County Probate Office.
