This past week, J.S. Abrams Elementary School held their Valentine’s Sneaker Ball Dinner, which concluded with the crowning of various winners representing the J.S. Abrams family this year.
From Mr. Kindergarten to Miss J.S. Abrams, the event was a happy and treat-filled time for kids and parents alike.
Starting with a welcome from Ms. Janiese Long, followed by a prayer from Ms. L. Blocker, guest speaker and school board member Mr. Terry Dawson presented a memorable speech for the kids.
Throughout the speech, staff, students, and parents welcomed the lesson of the Three Bs Mr. Dawson shared, which are to Be Kind, Be Brave, and Be You. He also spoke, saying:
“You are the heartbeat of Panther Nation. Make memories that’ll last beyond a box of chocolate and this particular school has produced many that’ve gone on to be great in every profession imaginable, so always remember if you can dream it you surely can achieve it.”
Ms. Blocker also served as the event’s host as she presented winners of the Royal Court representatives for this school year.
Councilman & PTO President Chester Porter was also present, as he told us:
“Through our text messaging system and daily announcements in reference to this event our parents and supporters have made it a worthwhile moment for our kids here. If you make sure the kids are first and shown the support needed, we believe it inspires our parents to come out and participate beyond what’s normally expected.”
It was a special fundraiser for the students to be able to be a part of scholastic activities and field trips that make it easier on parents, as the PTO makes sure kids receive many needed supplies.
Bistro on 19th also served students, parents, and staff with delectable servings.
Principal Ms. A. Buckelew told us:
“Our students sold over three hundred tickets for this event, and it’s so nice to see them dressed up and have an amazing time. One of our students literally walked into the building grinning excitedly just to be a part of this event, and I believe that expression on that student’s face exemplifies all of our emotions and feelings tonight.”
Principal Buckelew also added responses regarding the supportive staff and PTO efforts that has been an honor to be a part of.
Starting in March, the J.S. Abrams students will begin their ACAP Testing, and we’re standing behind them and encouraging that they will do their very best and succeed greatly within the process.
We also send thank-yous and encouragement to our parents, staff, and city officials for being supportive amidst their efforts as well for our kids.
We also want to congratulate this year’s J.S. Abrams Royal Court:
- Journee Williams (Ms. J.S. Abrams Elementary)
- Londyn Smith (Miss Valentine)
- Jamarion Williams (Mr. 5th Grade)
- Janessa Jackson (Miss 5th Grade)
- Sema’Jai Long (Mr. Kindergarten)
- Kenya Williams (Miss Kindergarten)
We wish all of our students, staff, and parents the world over to keep shining like those at J.S. ABRAMS.
