Greensboro City Council recognized the dedicated service of recently retired longtime City Clerk Lorrie Cook at their July 28 meeting.
Clerk Walker read from a statement that said, in part, “Your commitment and professionalism have made a lasting impact for 29 years.”
“Thank you all so much,” Cook said. “I have enjoyed working with the City Council so much over the years.”
Councilmember Shepherd made a motion to accept a $5,600 bid from Marengo Utility Service for repair work on the Smith Park area sewer system. Councilmember Kyser seconded the motion, and it was carried unanimously.
The Council considered a bid of $8,100 from Rickey Hill for painting work at City Hall. The project was previously quoted at $15,000 by a different contractor. Kyser made a motion to get more quotes on the project before making a commitment. Councilmember Bragg seconded the motion, and it was carried unanimously.
Tim Higgins of the Alabama Audubon Society was on hand to announce the 6th annual Black Belt Birding Festival taking place this weekend. According to Higgins, the festival has brought in $500,000 to the Black Belt region over the course of its six-year existence. The festival will have a kickoff party Friday night at Horseshoe Farms, where visitors can enjoy free food and live music.
