Many of us search a lifetime for true companionship, love, and all the things we think will make us happy. Yet, when viewing inspiration we hardly even notice, not to mention process, the lessons that can be learned from such.
Well, a perfect example of inspiration and the mutual exchange of love couldn’t be any more evident than in the great example of the long-lasting marriage of Reverend Sylvester and Rosie Shaw.
Recently, this humble and quiet blessed duo celebrated 55 years of marital bliss.
Rev. Shaw is co-pastor of Greater Bethel Baptist Church and has served there with the dedicated support of Mrs. Shaw throughout.
His most recent sermon was dedicated to Father’s Day, taken from Proverbs 4:1-10, with the fitting subject, “The Duties of A Father.”
In today’s time, Rev. Shaw shed light on the obvious misfortunes that plague many of our youth and the failed relationships of young adults due to the lack of maturity, compromise, understanding and, most of all, the void of not having God in the midst of our lives.
Always humble and wise and not big on talking, when he does speak it’s usually sharing knowledge of what has been experienced, yet more so words to inspire and help one from making foolish mistakes.
Mrs. Rose shares the same calm demeanor in womanly fashion and has proven to be a hard worker and devoted supporter, not only to her husband but to her children, grandchildren and church family, as well.
We sincerely congratulate them and the exceptional example they’ve set for many of us by showing that love conquers all and that it’s more than possible to achieve the same marital bliss and dedicated companionship with God in the forefront.
We wish them many more years of love together, as we aspire to find the same selfless and devoted love as they and others who will celebrate marriage anniversaries this year and in future years.

The four Fs — “Faithful, Focused, Friendly and Fair” — is the initiative of one, Mr. Kelvin Eades.
This past weekend, Eades hosted a Meet and Greet with the residents of Bessemer’s District 5. In the upcoming election, Eades will be running for a seat on Bessemer’s City Council for District 5 with the purpose of serving the people and making sure their concerns are met and their voices heard.
“Today I wanted to let the residents of District 5 know that I have been in several places of the world, in rooms I never thought I would be in making hard recommendations and decisions. For me, such a task and opportunity to serve the people will be all about the people,” Eades told us.
With the support of family and friends, Kelvin spoke to, talked with and genuinely engaged all he came into contact with on his own lawn.
Visitors were also served home-cooked dishes such as pasta salad and Swedish meatballs, along with refreshing drinks during the humidity of such a day. Now doesn’t that say something—a candidate not only stepping up to commune and congregate with those he’s looking to serve but showing consideration by way of nourishment throughout.
Eades concluded by stating passionately:
“Today’s Meet and Greet was important and exciting for my family and me. To see the residents of District 5, introduce myself to some, reconnect with others, and hear the concerns of all means much. I believe all that the Lord Jesus Christ poured into me through my parents, church, the Bessemer School System, Boy Scouts program at Abrams School, and the Boys Club on Bessemer’s Southside allowed me to make it 32 years in the Army. I want them to know their vote for me means I will hear their concerns and take them to city hall, that I will communicate with them and engage them, and that I will represent all of the residents of District 5. I will continue to march forth on the campaign trail to see those I met today and meet those that were unable to attend, because, as aforementioned, it’s all for and about the people.”
We wish all of our candidates much success with their hopes and diligent and sincere spirits such as Mr. Kelvin “Dude” Eades possesses, and that will ensure our city progresses positively with Bessemer’s residents and communities being the focal point of it all.
This coming election, don’t fail to let your voice be heard — Vote!
