Registration is open through Friday, Oct. 16, for this season’s youth deer and duck hunts at the M. Barnett Lawley Forever Wild Field Trial Area in Hale County, the State Lands Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced.

Hunters will be chosen by a computerized random drawing on Oct. 16, and those selected must accept their hunt invitations by Oct. 20.

The youth deer hunts are set for Nov. 14, 25 and 28; Dec. 2, 12, 16, 19 and 23; Jan. 2, 6, 9, 13, 16, 20, 23, 27 and 30; and Feb. 3. The youth duck hunts are set for Nov. 28; Dec. 2 and 23; Jan. 2, 9, 23 and 30; and Feb. 6.

Registration is at public.dcnr.alabama.gov/puvHunts10 and is open only to parents or other adults who are at least 21 and have a Conservation ID number. A hunting license is not needed to register, but anyone selected must have a valid license to accept the permit.

Youth hunters must be 15 or younger and accompanied by a parent or another adult at least 21. The adult must have a valid state hunting license and, for the duck hunts, the required duck stamp, bought ahead of time; neither is sold at the site. The field trial area covers 4,300 acres. Questions go to Scott Hammerle of the State Lands Division at 334-901-6964 or scott.hammerle@dcnr.alabama.gov.
