Ray Fields, 73, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 28. He slipped peacefully from this life with his loved ones by his side. He was born November 20, 1952.

He was a loving husband to wife, Lydia, for 31 years and devoted father to daughter, Lesley, who gave him his greatest joy, grandson Henry Chase.

Ray believed in God, family and his country, and besides being with family, he most enjoyed the outdoors, being in nature. As of late, he could be found at the ballpark watching Henry play baseball. He also was a wonderful cook and his mama taught him.

Ray was known and loved by many in the Moundville community, as well as the lumber and sawmill industry, where he worked for more than 50 years. His strong work ethic was unparalleled.

At a young age, you could find him working alongside with his daddy in the wrecker business of Moundville. Although officially retired, he worked up until his death. In the days to come he will be remembered fondly and missed by many.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ruth Fields, and in-laws, Joe and Carolyn Lee.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Lydia Fields; daughter, Lesley Anne Fields; grandson, Henry Chase Powell; sisters, Joyce Matherson (Danny) and Tammy Poole (Howell); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was held Sunday, October 4, at 2 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd. East, Tuscaloosa, officiated by Pastor Bryan Dunn, Bro. Bill Richards and Dr. James Dennis Lee. A committal service was held the same day at Oak Hill Cemetery, Moundville.

Pallbearers were Charlie Johnson, Tony Cochran, Randall Robinson, Johnny Kynard, Frank Lee, Joseph Lee, Alan Lee and Zach Lee.

Honorary pallbearers were grandson Henry Powell; Dr. John Summerford of Tuskaloosa Internal Medicine, DCH Hospital, UAB Hospital, The Westervelt Company and Westervelt Lumber, International Paper; the members of Englewood Baptist Church; and the Hale County High School graduating class of 1971.
