Bessemer City Councilwoman Donna Thigpen won re-election in District 4 in the Aug. 25 municipal election, defeating challenger Rhonda Brantley 283 votes to 153 at the end of what Howton describes as a demanding and controversial campaign.
“I want to thank the people of District 4 for their support, encouragement and, most importantly, for continuing to place their trust in me,” Thigpen said. “It is now time to get back to work. I will continue to listen, serve and fight for the needs of District 4.”
Thigpen chairs the council’s Community and Economic Development Committee and its Airport Committee. Re-elected to a fifth term, she said she looks forward to working with the members of the council.
The swearing-in ceremony is Monday, Nov. 2.
