Jefferson County Commissioner Jimmie Stephens of Bessemer is seeking re-election to the District 3 seat in the general election Tuesday, Nov. 3.
First elected in 2010, Stephens has served as president of the Jefferson County Commission since 2014.
A native of Bessemer, Stephens says he is honored to serve the people of District 3 and the whole county. He promotes a philosophy of communication, cooperation and coordination across party lines and among the county’s municipalities.
He is a 1975 graduate of Samford University, where he earned a master’s degree in business administration. A former businessman and teacher, he says he is committed to improving the quality of life for the people of Jefferson County.
“Communication is the key to good government and applying sound business principles to decisions that benefit good government,” Stephens said.
As commission president, Stephens points to fiscal responsibility, responsible growth, roads and infrastructure and accountable government as the commission’s work under his leadership. He says the safety of the county’s citizens comes first, along with better roads and infrastructure.
