The Bessemer City Council approved Councilwoman Carla F. Jackson’s request to allocate $350 of her District 6 discretionary funds to the Bessemer Board of Education for Bessemer City High School’s Parent Engagement Program.
The program promotes parental involvement in students’ education, strengthens communication and collaboration between families and educators, encourages achievement and attendance, and promotes a safe and productive learning environment.
The council found that the appropriation serves a valid and lawful public purpose and is not a gift or donation but is made in consideration of the direct public benefit to the citizens of Bessemer.
Councilwoman Sarah B. Person moved to approve the resolution, Councilman Teco Stephens seconded, and the motion carried.
