Sowing Seeds of Hope wraps up summer of community programs in Perry County

Sowing Seeds of Hope

Sowing Seeds of Hope closed out a summer of housing, youth, health and outreach programs serving families across Perry County.

For National Homeownership Month, the organization hosted a self-help housing workshop June 10 that provided 10 homeowners with information and resources for maintaining and protecting their homes.

Youth programs continued through Seed Camp, offered in partnership with the Alabama Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and Perry County Schools, where children took part in hands-on STEM and STEAM activities, faith-based learning and social-emotional learning.

SSOH continued social-emotional learning sessions throughout the county, including programs hosted by the Housing Authority of Uniontown, and a Mid-Summer Celebration with the Perry County Public Library and First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa promoted literacy, learning and fellowship.

The organization’s Back-to-School Event, coordinated by the SSOH Social and Spiritual Taskforce in partnership with Perry County Schools, served 179 students from Perry County and surrounding communities with school supplies, food, fellowship and encouragement as students prepared for the new school year.

SSOH also partnered with Access Vision Mobile Eye Clinic and Living In Your Best Health Now to provide vision services to 15 Perry County residents August 5, helping reduce transportation barriers to needed healthcare.

On August 8, the organization hosted “Bridging the Gap: Strengthening Families Across Generations,” an informational session on building stronger relationships across generations led by Otis and Cynthia Hunter, founders of Tower of Faith Outreach, Inc. and Perry County natives.

SSOH credited 25 local churches and 11 community organizations and groups with supporting its summer programs.
