This past Saturday, Councilman Cleo King saw to it our school kids were given considerate and thoughtful acknowledgements through the annual Backpack Giveaway.

Bessemer’s District Seven made sure no one that came out was overlooked nor left the event empty-handed.
“We’re here with well wishes to all the kids and educators for a successful and safe school year. We here at District 7 want to thank all of our sponsors and especially the City of Bessemer for helping us out on today’s success,” Mr. King told us.
From bouncing houses to music and drinks, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, the day was filled with communal love and joy. We could see parents and kids having obvious fun and engaging with others throughout the day.
The event was held from 5-7 p.m. at Bessemer’s Kenneth E. Gulley Rec Center, and prize giveaways were also won by the day’s participants. With bicycles to printers and more, events such as these always remind us the good and necessary actions that can be shown to others through unselfish and positive purposes.
We asked Mr. Cleo Kind what has been the inspiration behind such giveaway events such as these, and he said, “I am Bessemer, born and raised. I’ll always be willing to give back whenever I’m able to, and the next generations are our future. I don’t want my labor to be in vain, and everything we do at Bessemer’s District 7 is from the heart.”
We sincerely are thankful to Bessemer’s District 7 for showing a deeper meaning of consideration towards others. With well wishes and sentiments such as District Seven, we here at the Western Star wish a wonderful school year to all of our school systems worldwide.
