Legrande White, 83, died of natural causes at Sumter Nursing Home on July 16. He was born January 2, 1943, in Sawyerville to the late Percy White Sr. and Ruby Lee White, and he accepted Christ at an early age.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 3, at 11 a.m. at Jackson Chapel A.M.E. Church, 68 Jackson Road, Sawyerville, with Pastor Donald J. White officiating.

Legrande was a father, a husband and, most of all, a child of God. He taught God’s word from his heart to anyone who would listen, and he was a skilled and talented craftsman who enjoyed teaching others.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma White; his sons, Charles White and Doug White; his daughters, Granda Fields, Cheryl White and Felicia White; two sisters, Margorie White and Mamie Thomas; and six brothers, Willie Woods and Leodis, James, Percy, Charles and Leroy White.

He is survived by his daughters, Ruby (David) Hayes of Seattle, Washington; Jacquelyn (Carl) Millwood of Martinez, California; Deanna White of San Marcus, California; and Phenine Long of Huntsville; and his sons, Barry White of California and Eddie Hobson of Houston, Texas.

Also surviving are his sisters, Mary (Connors) Fields of Greensboro; Ruby Haywood of Birmingham; Letha (Willie) Hicks, Linda (Charles) Crews, Shirley Stewart and Brenda (Edward) Bester, all of Sawyerville; and Jacqueline (Norman) Weatherspoon, Vickie White, Blanche Finch and Mamie (Gregory) Taggart, all of Tuscaloosa; and his brothers, Eddie White of Kennesaw, Georgia; Donald White of Tuscaloosa; and Gregory (Malinda) White of Sawyerville.
