A Montgomery man charged last month with rape and assault after an attack at a Greensboro motel now faces six additional charges, including sodomy in the first degree, a Class A felony.
The new complaints against Colby Raybon Peebles, 33, were sworn July 29 and filed Monday in Hale County District Court as five separate cases. Along with the sodomy count, which falls under Section 13A-6-63 of the Code of Alabama, they charge him with two counts of domestic violence in the third degree, one alleging assault and one alleging menacing, plus interfering with a domestic violence emergency call and two counts of tampering with physical evidence, all misdemeanors.
The complaints put the offenses on or about July 18, the night police records placed the reported attack, and state the woman was in a dating relationship with Peebles. One count alleges he shoved, slapped, punched and scratched her. Another alleges that during the commission of a sexual assault, Peebles took her cell phone and threw it across the room, preventing her from calling for help.
The tampering counts allege Peebles concealed or destroyed the phone along with the text messages and call records on it, and that he took the bed sheets from Room 5 at the Inn motel and left the property with them in his truck.
Peebles was arrested July 22 in Montgomery, a day after a Hale County magistrate issued a no-bond warrant charging him with rape in the first degree and assault in the first degree. That complaint alleged he engaged in sexual intercourse with a woman by forcible compulsion involving a knife and that he intended to cause her serious physical injury with a deadly weapon. The woman was treated at a hospital, according to a Greensboro Police Department incident report.
The Watchman does not identify victims of sexual assault.
Case records filed Monday show Peebles in jail, with bond on the new charges set at $2,500 on each domestic violence count, $5,000 on the tampering case and $500 on the interference count, $10,500 in all. No bond was listed on the sodomy charge.
The charges are allegations, and Peebles is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
