At a recent meeting of the Bessemer City Council, a resolution was on the agenda authorizing the appropriation and expenditure of funds from the Bessemer City Council District Two Discretionary Fund.
The request was from Bessemer City Councilman, District Two Chester W. Porter for the Pipe Shop Community Center fundraising campaign. The facility is in need of extensive renovations.
A 501(c)(3) non-profit, the organization owns a community center in Bessemer that has as a goal of providing services and programs to the residents of the community.
The $1,000 requested appropriation was from the District Two Discretionary Fund.
The Bessemer City Council determined that providing support to the project serves a public purpose in that it promotes public health, safety and the general welfare of the community.
Councilwoman Donna Thigpen made a motion to approve the resolution for the expenditure of funds from the City Council’s District Two (2) Discretionary Fund. Councilwoman Carla Jackson seconded the motion. The motion carried.
