“I truly believe Birmingham is sitting on something special, because we have incredible community leaders and people who genuinely care about this city. The HBCU Basketball Association is simply bringing those pieces together,” HBCU BBall Association coordinator Kimberly Meadows recently told us.
This coming weekend many will have the opportunity to be a part of, witness, and be more aware of the HBCU Basketball Association.
On July 18-19, parents, kids, sports enthusiasts, local sports legends and more can come out and join this great community event at Holy Family Cristo Rey High School.
The HBCU BBall Association is built around five pillars that include Athletic Development, HBCU Culture & Legacy, Community Impact, Exposure & Economic Empowerment and Leadership/Character. The goal is to prove that sports can change lives both on and off the court.
From representation, inspiration and opportunity, the overall goal of this Association is to open the eyes of realization to our youth by getting them to understand there are more opportunities beyond making it to the NBA; from coaching, sports management to media and marketing along with other possibilities, students also can realize college is an attainable goal.
Ms. Meadows told us, “When young people attend our events, they’re not watching basketball. They’re seeing former professional athletes, coaches, business leaders and mentors who look like them and have walked similar paths. Whether you’re a basketball fan, an HBCU graduate, parent or someone just looking for something positive to do with your family there will be something for everyone.”
The event is to be held at 1832 Center Way S, Birmingham, AL. 35205 Saturday, July 18, from 12 noon until 6 p.m. and Sunday July 19, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
