The 4th of July holiday and America’s 250th anniversary of independence were celebrated with great fun and fireworks at Plantation Manor Retirement Community in McCalla.
The fun-filled, patriotic event occurred last Friday, July 3.
Flags and buntings decorated the rooms and the buildings. Planning the celebratory activities were Activity Director Shon Harris and assistants Amber Graham and Mireya Vitales-Martinez.
Patriotic face painting, arts and crafts and an inspiring patriotic concert were among the activities included. Featured soloist was Mireya Vitales-Martinez who sang “God Bless America,” “Party in the USA” and “Sweet Home Alabama.”
The residents and their guests enjoyed a delicious Independence Day meal with all the trimmings: ribs, chicken, hot dogs, sausage and hamburgers. Shon’s refreshing strawberry-dip, watermelon-cut fries were a crowd favorite.
The star-spangled fireworks display was put on by Director of Nursing Services Bayonne A. White.
Red, white and blue Astro popsicles were enjoyed by the residents as they watched the fireworks show.
