The annual Independence Day program at Danberry at Inverness Retirement Community was filled with pomp and circumstance.
The July 4th program was held in Inverness Hall at Danberry with a standing room only crowd.
The patriotic program was planned by Stars and Stripes Committee Chairman Anne Hartline and the members of her committee.
The Presentation and Posting of Colors was conducted by the Birmingham Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution and the Cahaba-Coosa Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution.
Bill Smith gave the invocation, George Washington’s prayer.
The Pledge of Allegiance was offered by Kathy Davis.
With Jerry Bullock accompanying him, Cpt. Ron Friday, U.S. Air Force, led the attendees in the singing of the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
The guest speaker for the Independence Day event was Niki Sepsas, a historian, photographer and international tour guide. His subject was “Boston: The Flare that Lit the Torch of Liberty.”
A highlight of the program was the playing of the military service songs and the recognizing of the veterans, spouses and the surviving spouses.
The 4th of July program ended with everybody singing “God Bless America.”
