Public forum on data centers set for July 30 in Gallion

A public forum on data centers and their impact on Hale and Marengo counties will be held Thursday, July 30, in Gallion.

The forum, titled “What the Community Should Know About Data Centers,” runs from 3 to 6 p.m. at Wallace Community College, 186 Field of Dreams Drive. It is open to the public and will be facilitated by Katherine Eddins, a conservation attorney and Gallion resident.

Organizers say the forum will cover the environmental and infrastructure considerations surrounding data center development, with time reserved for audience questions. The agenda includes an overview of the forum’s goals, presentations on data center impacts, a discussion segment and a community question-and-answer period.

Four featured speakers are scheduled:

  • Gerald Pouncey Jr., an environmental attorney focused on data center best practices;
  • Katherine Moore, president of the Georgia Conservancy, on planning and policy;
  • Danny Johnson of the Atlanta Regional Commission, on water policy; and
  • Jeff Berry, on technology infrastructure and rural and environmental impacts.
