The Alabama Sports Writers Association has named Bessemer Academy senior Kennedy Childers the AISA Softball Player of the Year. Childers was also selected to the All-State team.
Childers helped lead the Rebels to the Class AA state championship. The center fielder had a standout season with a .593 batting average and committed no errors all year. She also led the state in home runs (22), runs scored (76), and RBIs (77).
Teammates Macy Rooker and Carson Cox were also named to the All-State team.
Rebels coach Michele Hyde was selected as Coach of the Year.
