It has been a tradition at Galleria Woods to host a Senior Olympics event. The month of May has always been conducive to the event.
Galleria Woods Retirement Community opened in 1991. It is a senior living, retirement facility in Hoover.
A life care community, it offers a wide variety of beautifully appointed residential options, a wealth of exception services, and a full calendar of fun, engaging activities.
Recently, the annual Senior Olympics event was held.
This event allows the residents to engage with other residents and participate in activities that otherwise could possibly be intimidating.
Director of Life Enrichment Marianna Phillips planned the fun-filled event.
The Opening Ceremony was held at the gazebo in the courtyard. Marianna welcomed the participants and the residents to the Senior Olympics, and then they took a community walk to the putting green near the garden homes area.
Among the planned events included:
- Putting green
- Duck racing
- Nerf target shooting
- Archery
- Chair hockey
- Volleyball
The names of the participants were entered into a raffle.
Aubie the Tiger, Auburn University’s mascot, drew the winning tickets.
The winner of the first drawing received $250 off their monthly bill; second drawing received $500 off their monthly bill; and the third and final drawing winner was awarded $1,000 off their monthly bill.
The closing ceremony was held on May 22 in the Towne Center located on the first floor of Galleria Woods. The names of all the winners were announced.
An ice cream social was enjoyed by all following the closing ceremonies.
