The Greensboro Garden Club is pleased to recognize Ollie Williams of Eric Street as the June Yard of the Month recipient.
Williams has lived in her home for 39 years and has created a beautiful outdoor space filled with plants both in containers and throughout her landscape. Among her favorites are her rose bushes and elephant ears.
Visitors are immediately drawn to the large peace lilies that adorn her front porch. Asked what she does with them during the winter, Williams laughed and said she simply scatters them throughout the house until spring.
Many of the plants in her yard were gifts or cuttings from friends, making the garden especially meaningful. Williams said what she enjoys most about gardening is the peace it brings.
“I enjoy getting out in the yard with my thoughts,” she said. “It’s peaceful.”
The Yard of the Month program, conducted by the Greensboro Garden Club from April through December, recognizes residents who help beautify Greensboro through their gardening efforts and encourages community pride throughout the city.
Anyone wishing to nominate a future Yard of the Month recipient is encouraged to text the Greensboro Garden Club’s president at (334) 663-7433.
