Service League awards scholarships to local seniors

Seven local high school seniors were recently awarded scholarships presented by the Service League organization. The Charles Hamilton Road residence of Judy Moore Mathis was the site for the annual scholarship ceremony. Heather Lawley is president of the Service League. The Service League has presented scholarships since 2010.

Following a delicious buffet supper, the seven graduating seniors were presented. Recognized were:

  • Jesi Champion, Bessemer Academy, daughter of Crystal and Blake Champion
  • Payton Yarbrough, Harvest Home School, daughter of Mandie and Joe Yarbrough
  • Jade Ransom, Bessemer Academy, daughter of Talia and Monte Ransom
  • Destiny Hammon, Bessemer Academy, daughter of Sarah Hammond
  • Chloe Hallford, Bessemer Academy, daughter of Erin and Todd Carrell
  • Caroline Rhea, Bessemer Academy, daughter of Donna and Mark Rhea
  • Makayla Williams, Bessemer Academy, daughter of Mandie and Brad Reynolds

League members attending were Louise Tommie, Judy Moore Mathis, Heather Lawley, Brigitte Moore, Meredith Colburn, Amanda Jewell, Sonia Bice, Melissa Brasseale, and Christy Keith.

The Service League was established in 1947 in Bessemer as the Bessemer Junior Service League.
