Probate Judge officially announces May 19 primary; poll worker training, machine test dates scheduled

Perry County voters will go to the polls Tuesday, May 19, to cast ballots in the state primary and on two proposed constitutional amendments, Probate Judge Carlton L. Hogue announced last week.

Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. at precincts across the county.

On the Ballot

Voters will choose party nominees for governor, lieutenant governor, and U.S. senator on both the Democratic and Republican ballots.

  • Republican Primary: Voters will also select nominees for attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer, state auditor, and commissioner of agriculture and industries.

  • Public Service Commission: Both parties will nominate a candidate for Place No. 1, and Republicans will nominate a candidate for Place No. 2.

  • Constitutional Amendments: Two statewide amendments will appear on both party ballots.

Local Nominations

  • Democrats: Candidates for Perry County sheriff, county commission districts 1 and 2, the District 1 seat on the county Democratic Executive Committee, and the District 5 seat on the county Board of Education.

  • Republicans: A candidate for county commission district 3.

Poll Worker Training & Assignments

Training sessions are required under federal and state law (including the Help America Vote Act and Alabama Code § 17-2-4).

  • Marion Precincts: School of instruction Monday, May 4, at 5 p.m. (Upstairs courtroom, Perry County Courthouse).

  • Uniontown Precincts: Training Tuesday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. (Uniontown City Hall).

Equipment Testing and Accessibility

  • Public Accuracy Test: Automatic tabulating equipment will be tested Monday, May 11, at 9 a.m. at the building adjacent to the James Hood Detention Center in Marion. This test is open to the public.

  • Accessibility: Each polling place must be equipped with an accessible voting machine for voters with disabilities.
